The Joys of Writing...

....Waking Up with Wet Leaves and Dirt on my Bed.

When I mention to friends that I enjoy being an author, many who detested writing school essays, or any form of written assignment, look at me as if I’m an extraterrestrial. Who in the world can get a kick out of that?

Although I rarely attribute my own experiences to my characters, I could not resist integrating a recent dream into my antagonist’s own life. In a dream last week, I woke up thinking that wet leaves and dirt covered my entire bed. Caked mud was on the soles of my

feet. When I asked my wife what on earth was going on, she asked me if I’d been outside during the night, walking barefoot in our garden.

“Of course not,” I responded. "I just woke up." In silence, however, I realized that my legs were sore, as if I’d been walking a great distance. My wife hurriedly left the room to brew some coffee. Had I been sleep walking? I fell into a deep silence and ignored all the questions that jumped at me.

As my wife returned to the bedroom, coffee in hand, she woke me. It had all been a dream. And I dreamt I had awakened minutes before. Our bed was not covered in leaves nor covered in mud! Wow. Dreams can be so vivid and realistic.

Needless to say, I scribbled on my tablet the content of my dream. It will appear in the final book of my trilogy PYGMALION’S RECKONING, and I will attribute the nightmare to the villainous Diego.
